Justin Theroux is back on the small screen in HBO’s The Leftovers, but his private life is really what keeps him in the headlines. He has been engaged to Jennifer Aniston for two years now and, in a new interview, he says being with the former Friends star isn’t difficult at all.
“It doesn't feel like a hardship, it doesn't feel difficult,” Theroux told Details Magazine when asked about how he has dealt with tabloid photographers following him and Aniston. “It can be an annoyance, but it's not the end of the world. You have to center on what its core thing is, which is that you met someone you fell in love with. It's hard to explain. I just find myself wondering, What's the big f**king deal?
Theroux said that most of the stuff we see in the headlines on tabloids is pure fiction. He said that he was once congratulated by a Leftovers staffer after a paper reported Aniston was pregnant. That wasn’t true, obviously.
“You just kind of ignore it, but then you also become reluctant to say anything about the relationship,” Theroux, 42, said. “I could say everything's good, and then it's reflected back as JUSTIN THEROUX: EVERYTHING'S GOOD? That just creates this echo chamber, and as it ricochets around the Internet, it just gets wacky.”
While Theroux is well known in Hollywood circles, he’s not exactly a marquee star as an actor. He has proven himself to be a versatile star, considering he also co-wrote Tropic Thunder and Iron Man 2. But fame isn’t exactly something he’s looking for.
“Most of the people that jump off buses in Hollywood just want to f**king 'make it,'” the actor said. “And I never had that drive. Honestly. I could never visualize myself in that way. To me it seemed so cart-before-the-horse-y.”
The Leftovers can be seen on HBO Sunday nights at 10 p.m.
