Jamaal Charles will become the second highest paid running back in the NFL after he and the Kansas City Chiefs agreed to a new two-year extension.
The extension will let Charles earn an additional $18.1 million over the term of his contract, according to CBS Sports. Charles signed a six-year $28 million deal in 2010 with the Chiefs.
Charles was supposed to earn $3.9 million this season, but he will now earn $8.3 million this year.
Only Adrian Peterson will make more money as a running back then Charles this season.
Charles is one of the Chiefs most important offensive players. Last season, he accounted for 35.3 percent of the team’s total yards from scrimmage, which was the highest in the league, according to ESPN. Last season, he rushed for 1,980 total yards and 19 total touchdowns.
In his six-year career, Charles has rushed for 5,823 yards and 29 touchdowns. His average yards per carry is 5.6 yards, according to ESPN Stats.
Charles has been to three Pro Bowls in his first six years.
