Kate Upton is revealing in a new interview that she was far from comfortable with the attention she received from men when her first Sports Illustrated cover came out.
She spoke with Elle UK for their September cover about her famous curves, as well as feeling “terrible” about herself when she became a sex symbol seemingly overnight.
“I felt terrible about myself for a solid month. Every single guy I met was either married or about to be married, and I felt like I was their bachelor present or something,” she said. “I'm not a toy, I'm a human, I'm not here to be used. I am a grown woman, and you need to figure your s--t out."
Despite being quoted as saying she wishes she had “smaller boobs” in the past, she talked about her famous curves as well.
“I was really excited about becoming a woman,” she said, adding, "I've been begging for this body my whole life!"
Upton explained in her home state of Florida, everyone wears bathing suits all year round so it’s embraced as normal when women have curvy bodies. Now, she says people tell her she has a “healthy” body and that confuses her.
Upton has made a successful progression in her career, from catalog model to three-time Sports Illustrated cover girl and now a film actress.
