Kendall Jenner wants you to know her skyrocketing modeling career hasn’t been handed to her on a silver platter. Jenner believes her fame from the hit E! reality show, Keeping Up with the Kardashians, actually has made it harder for her to be taken seriously as a professional model.
Jenner, the cover girl of Love magazine, talked about the struggles she had making it as a model, according to The Cut.
“I was like, ‘You know what? I want to be high fashion. I want to be taken seriously… People think that this [success] just came to me. But it didn’t. What I have has almost worked against me,” Jenner told Love.
She also said when she went on castings, people in the industry would look down upon her because of her last name.
“But it was great when people didn’t recognize me,” she said. “I was like, ‘Thank you. Please don’t recognize me.’”
Since starting out as a model, Jenner has worked up the ladder and walked in runway shows for Chanel and Marc Jacobs, reports E! Online.
Jenner has all the support of her big family, including sister Kim Kardashian, with all of her modeling endeavors.
“She had to work extra hard to gain this respect and to fight for people to see she’s serious. Marc Jacobs gave her a real shot and treated her like any other model. Then Riccardo and Karl gave her a chance and she has proven that she is the real deal,” Kardashian said.
Last month, Jenner told E! News: “To be honest, this is exactly what I wanted to be. I was always looking up to supermodels, they were, like, my superheroes.”
