Amid the annual speculative rumors that comprise the start of the NBA’s free agent season this time every year after the Finals, one such mystery has been put to rest: This upcoming season, Kyle Lowry will once again be wearing the purple and black colors donned by the Toronto Raptors.
CBSSports.com reports that Toronto has inked Lowry to a four-year deal worth $48 million, which includes an early opt-out option after three years.
The Miami Heat were interested in adding Lowry to their “big three” set-up, according to ESPN.com but he ultimately felt that remaining with the Raptors was the best decision for him.
"It's very difficult, but at the end of the day it's still a business and you have to be a businessman for the situation that you're in," Lowry said. "But I am very happy. This has been one of the best seasons I've had through and through.
The Houston Rockets and Los Angelos Lakers were also hoping to sign the Villanova product, and for good reason.
To say that Lowry had a career season this past year is arguably an understatement. He averaged nearly 18 points per game dished out nearly 7.5 assists per game, and nailed 38 percent of 3 point attempts, all career highs. He also tied his previous career high in boards with 4.7, which he had set the year prior.
The Raptors were hoping that Lowry would stick around to help the team improve upon the first-round exit that it suffered in April. They got their wish.
