Have you been missing Kyra Sedgwick and The Closer? Well, the actress is returning to television for a new role in a very different crime show. She will make a few appearances on the sophomore season of Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Sedgwick will star as Deputy Chief Madeline Wuntch, a new rival for Captain Holt (Andre Braugher) with a higher ranking in the NYPD. According to Entertainment Weekly, she has only signed on for two episodes at the moment, beginning in season two’s second episode on Oct. 5.
Wuntch is “a person with whom Holt has a tremendous amount of history and all of it bad,” executive producer Dan Goor told TV Guide recently. “There will be a lot of negative pressure on Holt and the precinct because of [her].”
Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s first season earned acclaim from viewers and critics, surprisingly winning Golden Globes for Best Comedy Series and Best Comedy Actor for Andy Samberg. However, the show was shut-out at the Emmys, with Andre BRaugher earning the show’s only nomination.
Fox is moving the show to Sunday nights and will be back on Sept. 28. For the record, the network is also home to The Following, which stars Sedgwick’s husband, Kevin Bacon.
