The Los Angeles Lakers have waived point guard Kendall Marshall and re-signed small forward Xavier Henry after he became a free agent.

Marshall was going to be the back up point guard this season after starting 45 games last year, while averaging 8.0 points and 8.8 assists per game, according to ESPN.

Marshall’s contract was not guaranteed for the season and he was supposed to make less than $1 million for the season.

Marshall will now go into waivers where any team may sign him.

According to Yahoo Sports NBA inside Adrian Wojnarowski, the Lakers may try to re-sign him if he clears waivers.

The Lakers have also agreed to a new one-year contract worth just over $1 million with Xavier Henry.

Henry announced the news on twitter.

Last season with the Lakers, Henry averaged 10.0 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 1.2 APG, 1.0 SPG and 21.1 MPG, which were all career highs.

Henry was a former first round pick by the Memphis Grizzlies in 2010. He has played for three teams in his career.
