Leonardo DiCaprio is making headlines with his most recent effort to give back to the planet. The Hollywood actor known for his work in Titanic and The Wolf of Wall Street announced that he would be pledging millions to marine conservation.

The celebrity announced on his Twitter site that he would be pledging $7 million through his foundation toward ocean conservation.

DiCaprio appeared with Senator John Kerry and made the announcement.

"I got to know Leo particularly well during my campaign for president when he took time out of his life to put his celebrity to work on behalf of what he believed was the right choices for the country in terms of the environment particularly," Secretary of State John Kerry said during the second day of the Our Ocean conference, according to Tech Times.

The announcement came at a good time. President Obama also revealed a conservation plan to help wildlife in the Pacific Ocean. President Obama worked on fish being illegally sold.

Meanwhile, DiCaprio has been frequently contributing to ocean conservation. DiCaprio has had an interest in marine biology for some time, and began to give first in the United States before looking at seas abroad. Early efforts include giving money to protect the manatees in Florida. DiCaprio gave three million dollars via the marine conservation group, Oceana.

It will be an interesting two years for the Hollywood actor and his foundation. His initiatives include giving a grant to assist in protecting sharks, according to the The Hollywood Reporter. Helping save the oceans can also help save people, and DiCaprio is always glad to look firsthand to see what is going on miles below the surface of the ocean. The 39 year old actor practices scuba diving. Australia is not too far for the actor, and he began diving in the Great Barrier Reef some time ago. On his diving trips, witnesses the damage caused in the environment.

DiCaprio doesn’t mind speaking out about the planet and the oceans. According to Tech Times, DiCaprio said, “Protecting our planet's oceans and the marine species that call it home is one of the most pressing sustainability crises facing humanity today and a moral imperative that we must acknowledge."
