Byron Scott will become the 25th head coach of the Los Angeles Lakers. Scott and the Lakers have agreed to a four-year $17 million contract with a team option on the fourth year of the contract.

The Lakers have been without a coach since April 30, when Mike D’Antoni resigned. After three interviews with Scott and rumors of him being the frontrunner the last few weeks it’s confirmed that the former Laker will coach the team he won three championships with as a player. Scott worked for the Lakers television station, Time Warner Cable SportsNet, last year giving him familiarity with the roster according to ESPN.

Kobe Bryant, who played with Scott in his 1996 rookie season, gave some words of encouragement for his new coach. We've had a tremendously close relationship throughout the years. So, obviously, I know him extremely well. He knows me extremely well. I've always been a fan of his," Bryant said.

Scott has a coaching record of 416-521 in his 13 seasons with the Nets, Hornets and Cavaliers. Scott is the seventh former Lake to become the team’s head coach.
