Look out Marvel Universe! There’s a new Thor coming to town, and she – yes, she – is worthy enough to possess the power of Thor.
This October, writer Jason Aaron and artist Russell Dauterman are introducing an all-new God of Thunder with their series THOR.
When the Son of Odin can no longer wield the magical hammer, Mjölnir, a newfangled female heroine will arise to the challenge and be deemed the new Thunder God.
Aaron stressed that THOR will not be gender-bending the character, explaining that an entirely new hero will be stepping up to the plate.
“This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR,” Aaron tweeted. “This is the THOR of the Marvel Universe. But it’s unlike any Thor we’ve ever seen before.”
Though this will mark the first time a woman is granted the title of Thor, there have been others that have also had the honor of wielding Mjölnir in the past, including Beta Ray Bill and Thunderstrike.
At this point, there are still a lot of unanswered questions, which leaves fans to speculate: What does this mean for the original Thor and the evolution of his character? Who is the woman that will be taking on the mighty hammer?
The fact that this currently anonymous heroine is being presented as Thor is the kind of perk-your-ears-up news that gets readers interested. It’s a bit of a mystery where Marvel plans to take the series, but it should be an interesting ride.
The real question is how THOR will stand out from past storylines.
