Before he hits the field this football season, Michael Sam covers the August edition of OUT Magazine. Michael Sam became the first openly gay NFL draftee, after he was drafted by the St. Louis Rams.
The Huffington Post, is reporting that the magazine interview depicts topics such as Sam’s boyfriend and him coming out to his college football team.
According to The Washington Post, the writer for Sam’s featured story with the magazine, Christopher Glazek, had a struggle at first trying to get information out of the player. “The first 15 minutes of the interview were excruciating. Sam refused to make eye contact with me. His answers were curt and nonrevealing.” Glazek wrote in the article. However, Sam loosened up after Glazek reveals that he was gay, too. ““I’m sorry about before. I just thought you were some reporter after a story. Some of those guys are vultures.” Sam said.
Sam’s publicity trail doesn't end with OUT Magazine. He was also offered a reality show on the Oprah Winfrey Network, however, the show has since been postponed as Sam focuses on his football career.
