Miley Cyrus is the latest celebrity to be at the center of a death hoax, although this one wasn’t started on Twitter. Instead, a claim that the “Wrecking Ball” singer had suddenly died was part of a Facebook scam.

The hoax is a Facebook post that features the headline “{SHOCKING) Miley Cyrus Found Dead in Her Los Angeles Home! Country singer Miley Cyrus found overdosed this afternoon in her Los Angeles home.” That is obviously completely false, but anyone gullible enough to click it generates money for the scammers. According to The Epoch Times, the link goes directly to another page the mimics Facebook’s layout and does not feature a video of Cyrus dying.

Cyrus has remained quiet on social media lately, aside from her strange “Wrecking Ball” Instagram videos.

A source told Hollywood Life that the reason for the radio silence is just to give her a break from public life. “She is aware of the death hoax and thought it was actually pretty funny. By not responding, she thinks it is that much more of a joke because people are continuing to believe it,” the source told the site.

Apparently, she thinks this is her “Paul is Dead” moment, a reference to the decades-old hoax that Paul McCartney is actually dead and was replaced by a lookalike.

So, another Internet death rumor bites the dust. We can only wonder who will be next up.
