The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired outfielder Gerardo Parra in a trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for minor leaguers Mitch Haniger and Anthony Banda.
Parra has been with Arizona since the 2009 season and has been effective at the plate and in the outfield. He won two Gold Gloves in 2011 and 2013, and batted .274 with 39 home runs and 250 RBI in his career with the Diamondbacks according to SB Nation.
Parra’s offensive production has slipped this season, which may put him in a platoon role along side Khris Davis in which he would face right-handed pitching. He adds valuable depth for the Brewers’ outfield that includes Davis, Ryan Braun and Carlos Gomez.
Haniger, 23, was selected by Milwaukee in the supplemental first round in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft. With Double-A Huntsville this year he batted .255 with 10 home runs and 34 RBI according to NBC Sports. Despite an injury that cut his professional debut short, he has continued to impress scouts with his raw power and his arm in the outfield.
Banda, 20, was selected in the 10th round of the 2012 draft by Milwaukee. He posted a 6-6 record with a 3.66 ERA and two saves in 20 games with Single-A Wisconsin this year.
