While that’s not> more like it, it’s at least more familiar. The Minnesota Twins have succumbed (at least in the present moment) to the losing ways that have been a not-so-proud tradition in recent years: After going 2-8 in their last ten games, according to ESPN.com which included a five game skid comprised of a sweep by the Dodgers, and a near-sweep by the Rangers, the Twins are a season-worst 8 games under .500, after flirting just one or two games above or below that mark for most of the season thus far.
MLB.com reports that Minnesota is currently in the basement of their division, the American League Central, and are in a three-way tie for second-place (Houston has the honor of holding the worst record in the AL).
The Twins might just be the streakiest team in the majors. Just before the aformentinoed skid, they had strung together four wins in a row (albeit they were against the division-rival Chicago White Sox, who are only two games ahead of Minnesota in the standings), and before that they were swept by Boston and lost two out of three to Detroit for another five game slide. A case can be made to excuse the Detroit losses, as they are tied for second in the AL with 48 wins, but Boston has been almost as bad as Minnesota this year. And even before that Minnesota had one three in a row. It continues like this dating back to the beginning of the season. They simply cannot trade off when it comes to winning and losing, for whatever reason, whatever the case may be, they must simply do it in bunches, and that trend has strengthened even more lately, as evidenced above.
The Twins had better start producing more positive streaks than negative ones. Their playoff lives depend on it.
