Williams, who played for the Portland Trailblazers last season, put up 9.7 points, 4.3 assists and 2.1 rebounds per contest on 41.7 percent shooting.
Williams is a solid role player that brings the Timberwolves more shooting. He can run the point off the bench and can play alongside Minnesota star point guard Ricky Rubio for stretches. Williams has had to accept a declining role since 2010, going from an All-Star to backup point guard.
Williams bolsters the Timberwolves bench that already features rookie Zach LaVine, Gorgui Dieng, Shabazz Muhammad and Chase Budinger just to name a few.
The move will likely lead to J.J Barea and/or Alexey Shved to be released or possibly traded according to Dunkingwithwolves.com.
