Solarte sent down to AAA:
On this, yet another miserable day in Yankee-land, the New York Yankees have made a move in hope of a much needed spark. They have sent down third-baseman Yangervis Solarte to their AAA affiliate, the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
Solarte was a savior of sorts during April and May as he batted .299 with 29 RBI, according to hardballtalk.nbcsports.com. He snatched away the starting third-base job from Kelly Johnson and seemed to provide a youthful enthusiasm to the club. Since June 1st however, things have changed drastically as Solarte is batting just .162 in 22 games.
"I don't know what happened. Just swing, hit the ball and whatever happens, happens. I need to change maybe my focus,” Solarte said after Wednesday night’s game as he went 0-4 in a Yankee loss to the Tampa Bay Rays, according to NYDailyNews.com.
As disappointing as this may be for the 26-year-old, it is likely Solarte will get another shot some point this season.
Replacing Solarte on the 25-man roster will be Zelous Wheeler as he was called up from AAA Scranton. Wheeler has a .299 batting average and seven home-runs on the season at AAA.
Aceves suspended 50-games:
The bad news kept rolling in for the Yanks today as minor leaguer, and long time Yankee, Alfredo Aceves was banned 50-games today (without pay) for recreational drug use.
This was his second failed test. Aceves has a record of 0-1 and a 3.49 earned-run-average with the AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders.
