The New York Yankees (43-43) got some pitching help by trading for veteran right-hander Brandon McCarthy in a deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks (37-53).
The Yankees sent left-hander Vidal Nuno to the Diamondbacks.
Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal first reported the deal.

McCarthy is 3-10 for the 2014 season with a 5.01 ERA. He’s allowed 15 homers, walked 20 and struck out 93 in 109.2 innings of work.
Nuno is 2-5 this year with a 5.42 ERA. Nuno has struckout 60, walked 126, and allowed 15 homers in his 78 innings of work this year.
McCarthy told Jack Magruder of Fox Sports he expected to be traded. “At this point, you become At this point, you become an asset the other way. Right now as a Diamondback, sometimes your best value is your future value and what they can get for you. I totally understand that side of the game.”
The Yankees pitching staff has been devastated with injuries. The Yankees have lost Ivan Nova for the whole year, Michael Pineda has had shoulder issues, and CC Sabathia could be out for the reast of the season.
The trade deadline is July 31.
