Apparently Nicki Minaj throwing shade at Iggy Azalea was all in our, and the media’s, heads.

On Sunday at the BET Awards, Nicki Minaj was reported to have insidiously insulted fellow female rapper Iggy Azalea during her acceptance speech for the “Best Female Hip-Hop Artist” award. During the speech she said, “What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it.”
This was reportedly a dig at Iggy Azalea who has been rumored to have had ghostwriters writing her songs for her throughout her career, according to Page Six.

But today, Nicki posted a seven-tweet message saying that the media has put words in her mouth. Minaj stated that she had already congratulated Iggy Azalea on the success of her hit single “Fancy.” In her tweets she cited Lauryn Hill and Missy Elliot as inspirations saying, “I fell in love with Lauryn Hill [because] I knew she was the author behind those amazingly profound and articulated songs on [The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill]…It's the same reason I have a different level of respect for Missy. I know she's a writer and a producer. Women MUST aspire for more.”

Minaj stated that she was happy for Iggy Azalea and all of her fellow nominees but that she still hopes to inspire young women to write and let their voices be heard.
