Nina Dobrev has opened up about being famous, hitting the red carpet and her take on fashion.

It is no secret that the 25-year-old The Vampire Diaries actress knows how to work it on the red carpet. Dobrev is definitely a Hollywood beauty, but she told Nylon Magazine that she doesn’t feel like a celebrity outside of those events. “It doesn’t feel real because I don’t live in that world,” she said. “When I go to those events, I’m in town specifically for that, and then I leave later that night. I’ve maybe stayed for the after-party once, ever.”

As for how she feels about being in the business, she said, “It still feels like I’m a fan, in a way. A lot of people are very cynical and very jaded, but I’m not there yet.”

Though Dobrev may look like a stylish star during her time on the red carpet, she confesses that fashion hasn’t always been her thing. “I was not a girly-girl growing up,” she said. “I liked fashion, but I wasn’t very fashion-savvy. I didn’t always have the best outfits.” Luckily, Dobrev has stuck by her longtime stylist Ilaria Urbinati, who also works in costuming on The Vampire Diaries.

As for her biggest style tip, Dobrev told Parade about an interesting kind of accessory—color contacts. “Whether it’s a bright shoe or a clutch or a lipstick, I’ve had a lot of fun using color contacts as an accessory,” she said. “They won’t change your eye color, they’ll just enhance your eye color.”

Dobrev can be seen in the new comedy Let’s Be Cops when it hits theaters on August 13.
