In their latest move before the trade deadline, the Oakland Athletics have acquired outfielder Sam Fuld from the Minnesota Twins for left-hander Tommy Milone.
Milone was sent down to the Athletics Triple-A affiliate after the Athletics traded for Jeff Samardzija and Jason Hammel on July 5.
He became expandable after the Athletics traded for Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester, as we previously reported.
In his time with the Athletics, Milone was 6-3 with a 3.55 ERA in 16 starts this season with 61 strikeouts in 96 1/3 innings, according to MLB Stats.
Once he was sent down to the minor’s, Milone asked the Athletics for a trade, according to CBS Sports.
Fuld returns to the Athletics after being claimed off of waivers by the Twins in April. He will compete with Johnny Gomes, acquired in the Jon Lester trade, for Yoenis Cespedes’ spot in the outfield, according to the AP.
According to MLB.com, Fuld played in 53 games for the Twins and he hit .274 with a homerun, 10, doubles and 12 stolen bases.
