After he finishes making the new Star Wars movie, Oscar Isaac will make the jump to television. He has signed on to star in a new HBO miniseries from The Wire creator David Simon and co-starring Catherine Keener.
The new series is titled Show Me A Hero and is based on Lisa Belkin’s nonfiction book. According to The Hollywood Reporter, it will run six hours and is centered on the life of Yonkers, New York residents.
Simon is writing the script with William F. Zorzi. Paul Haggis (Crash) has been hired to direct and will co-executive produce with Nina Noble and Gail Mutrux.
Isaac has been cast to play Nick Wasicsko, a young mayor who finds himself at the center of controversy when a federal court forces him to put in low-income housing in a predominantly white neighborhood. Deadline notes that Keener will play a homeowner who has a sudden epiphany during the battle.
Isaac recently starred in the Coen Brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis and will next be seen in Star Wars: Episode VII. As for Keener, she was most recently seen in Captain Phillips and has two Oscar nominations on her resume.
