Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray has been diagnosed with cancer.

The Senators released a statement regarding Murray’s diagnosis.

“Mr. Murray is undergoing further testing and will begin treatment immediately for this condition as prescribed by the team’s doctors in collaboration with specialists.

The team also asked for support from the entire hockey community to keep Murray and his family in their thoughts during this time.

When Murray is not able to lead the team’s business, assistant general managers Pierre Dorion and Randy Lee will lead the team’s operations, according to USA Today.

The CBC reports, the type of cancer was not specified in the statement.

Murray, who is 71, is under contract by the Senators until the end of the 2015-2016 season, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

Murray was a head coach for 17 seasons winning 620 career games with Washington, Detroit, Florida, Anaheim and Ottawa, according to NESN.

In 2007, he led the Senators to the Stanley Cup Final and then was promoted to the general manager of the team.
