Center Paul Stastny has signed a free agent contract with St. Louis Blues.

The former Colorado Avalanche center signed a four-year, $28 million contract that will give the Blues a $7 million dollar salary cap charge per year, according to the NHL.

ESPN’s Pierre LeBrun was the first to report the news.

Stastny grew up in the St. Louis area and is the son of Peter Stastny, who played for St. Louis for two season’s in the 1990s, according to ESPN.

He will be joining the team already being familiar with David Backes, T.J, Oshie and Kevin Shattenkirk, after playing with them on the US Olympic team in Sochi this February, Fox Sports reports.

The Blues were looking to keep competitive in the Western Conference after the Anaheim Ducks traded for Ryan Kesler and the Dallas Star traded for Jason Spezza, which we reported earlier.

Stastny played his entire eight-year career in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche, scoring 458 points in 558 games. Last season he scored 25 goals and assisted on 35 others in 71 games.
