Pittsburgh Penguins star center Sidney Crosby will under go arthroscopic wrist surgery to repair his right wrist.

Throughout the playoffs Crosby insisted that he was healthy, even though he only had one goal and eight total points, while being held without a point in five of the Penguins seven games versus the New York Rangers, according to NHL.com.

A source close to Crosby told Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that Crosby’s wrist was terrible during the playoffs.

The source also said that while the surgery is not major, as long you have that type of injury your play will suffer.

It is unknown when Crosby injured his wrist.

Crosby is not expected to miss any regular season games during the 2014-2015 NHL season.

Crosby won the Hart Memorial Trophy and the Ted Lindsay Award as the NHL’s most valuable player by leading the league in scoring with 104 points, beating out his closed competitor by 17 points, as we previously reported.

The Penguins season begins at home on Oct. 9 versus the Anaheim Ducks.
