The Pittsburgh Pirates (43-40) pulled off late game heroics over the Arizona Diamond Backs (35-50) to win at PNC Park Tuesday night.

Ike Davis had a RBI single as he broke his bat to finish off an unlikely three-run rally in the ninth inning to secure a 3-2 victory for the Pirates. Davis was a pinch-hitter for first baseman Gaby Sanchez and made his one at-bat of the night really count.

The Pirates offense was woeful the first eight innings as Arizona starter Wade Miley pitched eight innings in which he struck out 10. Miley was perfect going into the fith inning and came just three outs shy of his first career complete game for Arizona according to the Pitssburgh Post-Gazette.

Pirates outfielder Starling Marte went 1-for-4 with two crucial RBIs. Marte just barely missed a walk-off home run, but did score Gregory Polanco and Neil Walker according to MLB.com.

The Pirates are now seven games back of NL Central leaders Milwaukee.
