Queen Elizabeth II’s royal guards impressed onlookers on July 15th as they played a familiar tune.
The Queens guard is better known for their ability to keep a straight face than for surprising crowds with pop culture references. Of course choosing The Game of Thrones theme song seems like a no brainer given the regally dressed guards and Buckingham Palace backdrop.
According to Metro the incident may have been inspired by the Queens recent trip to the award winning HBO series set. Of course, the Queens Guard are not the only ones to create their own version of the song, which has a very diverse and infinite seeming number of covers on Youtube.
In other musically related Game of Thrones news, according to Rolling Stone, DJ in real life Kristian Nairn who plays Hodor in the series announced plans for a Game of Thrones themed Australian tour. The event aptly names “Rave of Thrones” will include themed venues, and even a possible dress code for guests.
