Sam Raimi, at least as a producer, was able to bring his directorial debut—and claim to fame—The Evil Dead back to the big screen with a re-imagining to the franchise last year. But it looks as though that is not the beginning of his Evil Dead revival, as he revealed during his time at Comic-Con that he is writing a TV series of the cult favorite horror movie.
As Bloody Digusting reports, during a Hall H panel for his upcoming film adaptation of the video game The Last of Us, which he will also produce not direct, Raimi revealed to the eager San Diego crowd that he, his brother Ivan and star Bruce Campbell are currently working of a new TV series of their 1981 movie.
Raimi wrote the original movie on his own, while Scott Spiegel helped co-write the second movie and his brother helped pen the third movie, Army of Darkness. Campbell and Sam Raimi served as producers of the new 2013 Evil Dead, which may or may not be connected to the original trilogy in a potentially made sequel.
With that, since details are so limited on this new show—including when it would air and what station it would be on—it is additionally unclear if the new series will be connected with the movies, or simply just a spin-off of the classic horror films.
Whichever is the case, this may be taking over the place of a long-mentioned Evil Dead 4, a.k.a. Army of Darkness 2, that Sam Raimi has mentioned making in the past, but has never truly come to life.
These two upcoming projects just serve as two of the properties that Raimi has his name on as a producer. Another includes a remake of Poltergeist, which is set to hit theaters on February 13, 2015.
