Sam Waterston will be joining Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin in Netflix's upcoming series Grace and Frankie.
The Newsroom star will play Sol, who is married to Tomlin's character Frankie in the 13-episodes series, according to The Hollywood Reporter, who first reported the casting.
Frankie and Grace, played by Fonda, discover that their two husbands, who are law partners, are secretly gay and love each other. The two have decided now is the time to make the reveal since gay marriage is now legal. Sol, who is said to be much more in touch with his emotions has been keeping quiet about his affair for 20 years.
His law partner and now future husband Robert will be played by Martin Sheen, who signed on to the project back in June.
Frankie and Grace find that they have to support each other in order to get over the unexpected news.
The single-camera comedy was created by Marta Kauffman and Howard J. Morris. The two, along with Fonda, Tomlin, Marcy Ross, Dana Goldberg, Davis Ellison and Paula Weinstein are on board to executive produce. Tate Taylor is on board to direct the pilot and executive produce as well.
Grace and Frankie is scheduled to be released in 2015.
