The big news in the NBA offseason has mostly been speculation on where star free agents like Lebron James, Carmelo Anthony, and Pau Gasol will end up signing. While everyone has their attention on them, the San Antonio Spurs, fresh off winning their fifth NBA title, are quietly resigning important pieces to their team.
Today the Spurs resigned veteran power forward Boris Diaw, who played his best basketball of the season when it mattered most, in the Finals. The Frenchmen took to Twitter to voice his excitement and optimism about staying in San Antonio.
Hey spurs fans, Good news i stay in san antonio for a few more years. Lets win it again #gospursgo http://t.co/dqkftfLuN1
— Boris Diaw (@theborisdiaw) July 6, 2014
According to CBSsports , the deal is worth $22 million over three years, showing how much the Spurs appreciate the skilled 32-year-old. Diaw averaged 9.1 points and 4.1 rebounds per game this season.
The Spurs also resigned point guard Patty Mills to a three year deal earlier in the week, that according to BleacherReport.
Mills and Diaw were both key reserves during the Spurs playoff run, which was capped off by defeating the Miami Heat in five games in the NBA Finals. Though several of the Spurs core players are in the tail end of their careers, by resigning players who perform well in their system, they should figure to be one of the favorites to win the title again next season.
