Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Sidney Rice, 27, retired from the National Football League Wednesday on the eve of Seahawks training camp.
Though it was not mentioned in Wednesday’s official release, he is reportedly walking away from football because of concussions according to ESPN.
"After careful consideration and seven wonderful years playing in the National Football League, including the last three for the Seattle Seahawks, I have decided to retire from playing in the National Football League," Rice said in the statement. "I have enjoyed my experiences with all of my coaches, teammates and passionate Seahawks fans.
Rice spent the past three seasons with the Seahawks, where he won a Super Bowl ring, after playing four years with Minnesota Vikings.
Rice tore his ACL last season in late October, sidelining him for the rest of the year. He also ended the 2011 season on the injured reserve list after suffering two concussions in two weeks according to USA Today. Rice had 3,592 receiving yards and 30 touchdowns in his seven seasons.
