Sherri Shepherd broke down in tears on ABC’s The View on Monday while speaking about her departure from the show after seven years as a co-host.
Despite many rumors, Shepherd’s reason for leaving is rooted in her faith.
"It is true that I'm leaving The View. Some people have known since the spring that I was leaving,” she said in the first live show since the news broke. Shepherd, who’s been going through a difficult time in her personal life, also said she didn’t want to “distract” from Barbara Walters’ retirement from the show.
"You guys know that I often talk about my faith. I'm a woman of faith and seven in the Bible is the number of God's completion. And I've been here seven years, and my time at The View is complete,” she said.
Shepherd also talked about gaining “sisters” for life, such as former co-hosts Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Joy Behar as well as Jenny McCarthy.
As for McCarthy’s exit, she said those rumors are true. “I've taken a new job that will allow me to do what I do best. Which is talk without having to interrupt anyone. I will be announcing it in the next few weeks,” she said.
