Model and actress Devon Aoki, known for her work in Frank Miller and Robert Rodrguez’s Sin City, is joining the third season of CW’s Arrowin the recurring role of Tatsu Yamashiro, also known as the costumed, sword-wielding hero "Katana".

According to Deadline, Aoki’s Katana will be one of Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) mentors during his time in Hong Kong and will be a huge influence on Queen’s road to becoming the show’s titular vigilante.

In the comics, as noted by Comingsoon.com, Katana is a martial artist, who wields a legendary, magical sword called the "Soultaker" (as noted by Comic Book Resources). In a manner appropriate to its title, the sword takes and houses the souls of those Yamashiro has slain, including her late husband, who, according to Entertainment Weekly, will be Queen’s handler in Hong Kong.

It is unknown if Katana’s more cartoonish and mystical elements will play a role in the CW’s series, which has taken a more grounded view of superheroes in the vein of Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight film series.

Aoki, as Comingsoon points out, is not unfamiliar with the katana, using one in her role as the deadly Miho in Sin City.

Arrow airs Wednesdays at 8 P.M. ET/PT on The CW with the new season set to premiere on October 8th.
