When Stephen Colbert debuts on The Late Show on CBS next year, the show might have a different structure, CBS teased today at the TV Critics Association press tour. CBS chief Nina Tassler also talked about the ending of the long-running Two and a Half Men.
Tassler said that the network hasn’t done much work with Colbert yet since he is still at Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report, at least through the end of 2014, notes Zap2It. They know that he will not take his Colbert Report persona to CBS and does want to keep interviews.
However, what is still up-in-the-air is if Colbert will really keep the traditional late night format that has been a staple of television forever.
“There is certainly a knee jerk reaction to go with a more traditional behind the desk interview format but who knows,” Tassler said.
She also said that CBS is still in talks with David Letterman about when Letterman will officially leave The Late Show and when Colbert will start.
Tassler also spoke about Two and a Half Men, which is finally ending this season. According to USA Today, she said that the Chuck Lorre show will see Jon Cryer and Ashton Kutcher’s characters marrying just so Kutcher can adopt a child.
Walden (Kutcher) “realizes it's very difficult to adopt a child as a single, straight man. So, once and for all, he decides, 'I'm going to propose to Alan. We're going to get married and adopt a child as a gay couple,'” Tassler explained.
Tassler also said that The Big Bang Theory stars’ contracts should get ironed out soon.
