Thomas Jane landed a starring role in Syfy's upcoming futuristic space opera The Expanse, based off the first book in the series Leviathan Wakes by James S.A. Corey.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, who first reported the casting, Jane will take on the role of Detective Miller, who is assigned a missing persons case, but finds it is part of a larger conspiracy and ends up teaming up with a space captain, Jim Holden, as they continue to unravel the mystery that takes them across our galaxy.
Jane has starred in The Mist and will be seen in Somnia, The Veil and Vice, all out later this year.
Syfy announced the 10-episode series back in April as the network looks to make a push back to more serialized and serious science fiction and regain fans turned off by the sillier more recent fare.
MArk Fergus and Hawk Ostby are on board to write and executive produce. The two and Naren Shankar will be showrunners. Sean Daniel, Jason Brown, who pitched the series, will also be executive produces, along with Shankar.
"'The Expanse' is epic in scale and promises to be Syfy's most ambitious series to date," Syfy President Dave Howe said back in April. "Bringing this coveted book franchise to television with our partner at Alcon and the Sean Daniel Company is a giant win for Syfy, reinforcing our overall strategy to produce bold, provocative and compelling sci-fi fantasy stories."
