TCU defensive end Devonte Fields continues to struggle with off the field issues, the latest one involving a domestic disturbance that occurred Sunday morning in Fort Worth, Texas.
TCU has suspended Fields, a redshirt sophomore and Preseason Big 112 Defensive Player of the Year, pending the results of a police investigation. Fields is accused of punching a former girlfriend in the head and threatening her with a gun according to the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
Fort Worth police reported that Haley Brown, 20, had a swollen right cheek and a cut under her eye when they arrived at her home Sunday. Police said no charges have been filed and Fields hasn’t been arrested.
TCU said in a statement that the school does not tolerate harassment or misconduct, and that Fields will go through an internal discipline process.
Fields named the 2012 Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year and the AP Big 12 Defensive player of the Year after compiling 53 tackles and 10 sacks as a true freshman. However, he played just two games in 2013 due to a suspension and a foot injury suffered in his third game according to Yahoo Sports. Fields was suspended for TCU’s first game and a portion of the second in 2013, however TCU never revealed the reason for the suspension other than a violation of university and team policy.
