The Detroit Tigers like going to the Texas Rangers to add players as they make a push to reach the World Series for the second time in three years.
The Tigers have acquired closer Joakim Soria from the Rangers for a pair of minor league pitchers.
Soria has recorded 17 saves this season, posting a 2.70 ERA in 35 appearances. He has also accrued a record of 1-3. In 26 appearances in 2013 with the Rangers, Soria went 1-0 with a 3.80 ERA, reports bigcountryhomepage.com .
In return for Soria, the Rangers will get Corey Knebel and Jake Thompson.
Knebel will be sent to the Rangers’ Triple-A team. In two stints with the Tigers in the Majors this season, he has thrown 8 2/3 innings in eight appearances, giving up seven runs. He was a first round selection of Detroit in the 2013 MLB Draft.
Thompson has spent this season in High-A and Double-A in the Minor Leagues. He has posted a 7-4 record with an ERA of 3.06 in 18 games. He was picked by the Tigers in the second round of the 2012 Draft.
This marks the third time in recent history that the Tigers have acquired a big name from the Rangers. In the previous trades, Ian Kinsler and Joe Nathan made their way from Texas to Detroit, according to southsidesox.com .
