Drake is one of this generations biggest and most influential rappers-and rightfully so. His slick lyricism and hardcore R&B flow separated him from the bunch; instead of chasing the sound he created one. It’s a sound that is filled with emotion-which is sort of considered taboo in the rap industry. While his contemporaries are serving bars about their body counts and stroking their ego’s, Drake is rapping about love and even better, love lost. Sure, Drake’s ego is huge sometimes, but the way he is able to cancel it out with a small and quiet beat is genius.
So far, throughout his career, Drake has released three albums: Thank Me Later, Take Care and his most recent Nothing Was The Same, all of which went platinum and each spawned hit singles. However, before he released those three albums he released three mixtapes and an one Ep entitled, So Far Gone; That mixtape was met with critical acclaim, spawn the hit single “Best I Ever Had” and catapulted Drake into international glory.
Drake has racked 12 #1 singles on the Rap Charts-more than any other artist in history. He also took 10 songs to #1 on the RnB/Hip-Hop charts-making him the rapper with the most number ones on that chart too. Drake didn’t rank up this hits with cheap records that were just great radio songs; he got those hits because he knows how to connect with people-a large group of people.
Here are the best of the best by Drake.
Here we go!

10. Started From The Bottom- Nothing Was The Same
The beat is arguable the best beat of 2013. The content divides people as some argue that there was a never a bottom for Drake to start from. However, when it comes to the rap game, everyone pretty much starts from the bottom and only few reach Drake’s level of success. If Drake’s countless achievements are anything to go by, then Drake is definitely here.

9. “The Ride”- Take Care
Drake sounds like he can fit in any era of rap with this song. Its old school undertones fused with its urban background vocals that are now being popularized by The Weeknd, Jhene Aiko and Childish Gambino. Drake lets everyone know that you can’t “feel” him or what he’s going through/been through. So stop saying it.

8. “Up All Night” featuring Nicki Minaj- Thank Me Later
The song immediately infects your ears with the perfect beguiling Hip-hop flow from the lead artist. It’s opposite of the songs that Drake used to introduce himself to the world (“Best I Ever Had”, “Successful”); it has a more harder sound to it, but not too hard. Young Money’s Nicki Minaj is later tagged in and delivers her then signature rhyme schemes and occasional off-the-wall adlibs.

7. “We’ll Be Fine”- Take Care
Drake assures himself that everything will be fine, an assurance that everyone can relate to at some point of life. In the song, he shouts out the late Aaliyah, whom he has tatted on his body. Birdman is on the song (don’t know why). Overall, the song serves as an rigid release, as other songs on Take Care a bit more mellow and emotionally-driven.

6. “Hold On We’re Going Home”- Nothing Was The Same
Though Drake doesn’t rap on this song, it still manages to come off as very much Drake. The versatility of Drake is brought out with song. He is an artist. Only a few rappers of today can really call themselves artist and Drake is one of the top.
[ new page = No.5-Fireworks]
5. “Fireworks” featuring Alicia Keys- Thank Me Later
Alicia Keys help make this song one of the most sonically-mesmerizing songs of Drake’s career. Drake singing parts can work alone for the song, but add Alicia Keys powerful, soulful voice and you have a ultra-fantastic track. The song is influenced by the recurring dream Drake has which makes the song relatable because everyone has that one dream that they dream forever.
[ new page = No.4- Best I Ever Had]
4. “Best I Ever Had”- Thank Me Later
This is the song that really started to make people pay attention to Drake. His rhymes blend almost perfectly over the song’s cool and calm R&b sound. Drake’s able to rap about sex and makes it sound smooth in a way that it will be appealing to women.
[ new page = No.3- From Time]
3. “From Time” featuring Jhene Aiko- Nothing Was The Same
Drake raps aggressively over one of the simplest and quietest beat known to man. Drake’s flow is consistent and tells a story. Jhene Aiko’s voice just resonates as it blends smoothly into the background. There are so many things that are special in the song it’s hard to point out just one.
[ new page = No.2- Shot For Me]
2. “Shot For Me”- Take Care
Take Care crafted so many independent masterpieces and collectively it was a gem. One of the songs from the album that truly captivates the virtuoso of the album is “Shot For Me.” Drake is telling his ex to take a shot of alcohol for him in his memory as he is the best she ever had. He strokes his ego in the most subtle way that if you listen to the song without paying attention to lyrics, it sound like the song is about heartache. The toast he gives at the end was just the icing on the cake. The message of the song resembles Beyonce’s “Best Thing I Never Had”; Drake just executes it more effectively and creatively. No disrespect to Queen Bey though.

1. “Marvin’s Room”- Take Care
The inclusion of the phone conversation alone guarantees this song a place on the list. The lyrical content makes it No.1. “I've been drinking so much that I'mma call you anyway and say/F**k that n***a that you love so bad/I know you still think about the times we had/I say f**k that n***a that you think you found/And since you picked up, I know he's not around”. The only thing better than slick metaphors is when you can just express it word from word.
