This week’s edition is filled with drama, comedy and thrills. Before I Go to Sleep is a thriller about a woman, who has no memory of her past as a result of a traumatic accident and begins to question everyone around her. St. Vincent is a comedy chronicling a divorced young boy, who forms an odd friendship with the abrasive war veteran, who lives next door and The Skeleton Twins is a drama that revolves around an estranged set of twins, who cheat death on the same day, which causes them to reunite and find out what went wrong in their lives. All three films have tremendous star power with unique plots that will keep moviegoers laughing, intrigued and on the edge of their seats until each’s movie’s climax and audiences will be enthralled by these three motion picture’s movie genres.
Before I Go to Sleep is a thriller starring Nicole Kidman, Colin Firth and Mark Strong. Kidman’s character, Christine Lucas, wakes up every day with has no recollection of her life due to a traumatic event in her past. The trailer shows Kidman’s character questioning everything around her, the people in her life, her environment, her job, even her name and becoming increasing frightened by the world around her. Kidman does a masterful job of playing a frightened woman, who doesn’t know who to trust or what to believe about her own existence so she begins to investigate the accident and learns terrifying things. Fans of Kidman know that she can portray a scared woman quite well so moviegoers are sure to flock to this movie on its opening day. It opens in theaters on Friday, September 12.
St. Vincent is a comedy that centers around a boy, whose parents recently divorced and he deals with it by forging an unlikely friendship with his ornery war veteran neighbor and a stripper. Starring Melissa McCarthy, Bill Murray, Naomi Watts, Terrence Howard and Chris O’Dowd, the trailer showcases how Murray’s character, St. Vincent de Van Nuys, copes with life and the people around him including Maggie (McCarthy,) the divorced woman, who moves in next door to him with her young son, Oliver (newcomer Jaden Lieberher.) Murray’s offbeat comedic timing along with McCarthy’s somewhat subdued wit bring out Lieberher’s restrained humor and fans will get to see Watts in an unusual role for her, a down-on-her-luck stripper. Fans of all three actors are sure to want to run to this comedy’s opening day to see the weird yet humorous friendships that develop between the characters and how each actor portrays them. It opens in theaters on Friday, October 24.
The Skeleton Twins is a drama starring Saturday Night Live alum Bill Hader, Bridesmaids Kristen Wiig, Modern Family’s Ty Burrell and Luke Wilson. It premiered in competition at 2014 Sundance Film Festival and won the “U.S. Dramatic Screenwriting Award” there. Maggie and Milo (Wiig and Hader,) play estranged twins, who haven’t spoken to each other for a decade, but each cheat death separately on the same day. As a result, they then come together to figure out why each of their lives turned out so horribly wrong. The trailer displays the strained relationship between Maggie and Milo, yet they begin to bond as Maggie opens up to Milo about her affair with her scuba instructor and her reservations about having a child with her husband, Lance (Wilson.) It’s a good movie for siblings, who find it difficult to share their feelings with each other and find that family connection. It opens in theaters on Friday, September 19.
