Washington quarterback Cyler Miles was suspended on Thursday for the team’s season opener against Hawaii on August 30.
Miles, a sophomore and considered next in line since the departure of three-year starter Keith Price, was also suspended for the Huskies’ spring practice, but was reinstated in May. "I thought it was appropriate that he was going to miss the first game as well," first-year Huskies Coach Chris Petersen said Thursday. “He owned up to it. Did everything right as we moved forward. You know, he's going to get a second chance.”
Miles and former Huskies’ wide receiver Damore’ea Stringfellow were reportedly involved in two assaults on the Washington campus on February 2 according to the Los Angeles Times. Miles wasn’t charged; Stringfellow pleaded guilty to two counts of misdemeanor assault and transferred schools.
Sophomore Jeff Lindquist and redshirt freshman Troy Williams will battle it out to start against Hawaii in the season opener.
Miles completed 37 of his 61 passes for four touchdowns and two picks last season. Miles is the only quarterback on Washington’s roster to start a game according to Fox News.
