Colombia forward James Rodriquez has agreed to a six-year deal with Real Madrid FC of La Liga in Spain.
Rodriguez led the World Cup in scoring with six goals.
Real Madrid will reportedly pay a transfer fee of $108 million Rodriguez’s old club, Monaco, according to the AP.
This is the latest big name soccer player to join Real Madrid in the past week, after German midfielder Toni Kroos joined the team, as we previously reported.
Rodriguez will continue wearing his number 10 and will may accompany his new teammates on Real Madrid’s US Tour that begins soon, according to CBS Sports.
Rodriguez played for Monaco for only a year after the team signed him from Porto in Portugal.
According to a statement released by the vice-president and CEO of AS Monaco Vadim Vasilyev, the club didn’t want to sell Rodriguez, but it was beneficial to both clubs.
Real Madrid now has three of the four most expensive transfers in soccer history after signing Ronaldo in 2009 for £80 million and Gareth Bale last summer for £85.3 million.
