A New Yorker, and die-hard Yankees fan to boot, has found a Boston Red Sox 2013 World Series Championship ring in a very public place and returned it to its rightful owner.
Throughout the history of sports, there have been many hate-spewing rivalries. The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers; Boston Celtics and Los Angeles Lakers; Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins; and of course the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.
The mere thought of Ted Williams, David Ortiz and the epic comeback of 2004 was not enough for Luigi Militello to keep the ring and claim “finders-keepers.” Militello owns Luke’s Bar and Grill in Manhattan, and found the ring on the bathroom-sink, according to CBS Sports.
Drew Weber is a local businessman who owns a Red Sox minor-league affiliate (Lowell Spinners), and was that fortunate soul who left the ring. Weber is a local and regular at Luke’s Bar and Grill.
"I was like, geez, it's big. Who would leave this here?" Militello told the The Associated Press. "I'm a big Yankee fan. What are the chances of this happening?"
"I went looking around my apartment and started having palpitations. Sweat was pouring off my forehead," Weber said. "I'm looking at my finger and it's not there."
The two met up after Weber frantically called the restaurant and Militello answered the phone. The ring is roughly worth $30,000, basing the value off of the Red Sox's 2004 and 2007 rings.
