Looks like it may not be the end for Selene and her battle with Lycans and humans. It has been confirmed that a series reboot is in the works to be released in 2015.
According to an exclusive report, the Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Lakeshore Entertainment has decided to move forward with the plan to reprise the series, and have hired Cory Goodman to write the script. Previously Goodman’s experience with films relating to vampire-human wars included Priest and The Last Witch Hunter starring Vin Diesel.
The first Underworld, released in 2003, starred Kate Beckinsale and was directed by Len Wiseman. The storyline followed vampire Selene and the war of the underworld against lycans that was held secret from the outside world. Unlike your average vampire romance movie that has been widely perceived in today’s audience, this film earned Beckinsale a role as a highly regarded action star.
The series was followed by three more films; Underworld: Evolution (2006), prequel, Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (2009) and Underworld: Awakening (2012). The last film in the series, Awakening, brought in a total $160 million worldwide, making it the top earner in the franchise. The prequel, Rise of the Lycans, made its run as the worst performing film in the series, Entertainment Weekly reported. Many believe it is largely due to the fact that it is the only film in the series not to feature Beckinsale.
