Arizona Diamondbacks’ first basemen Paul Goldschmidt has a fracture in his left hand.
A pitch hit him on the hand Friday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Arizona decided to place Goldschmidt on the 15 day disabled list at first. Now it looks like the all-star talent will have to sit out for a long period of time.
Before Arizona played in a game on Sunday, team manager Kirk Gibson told the press that Goldschmidt would miss multiple weeks worth of games.
According to ESPN, Gibson specifically stated, "Realistically, it's eight weeks."
The organization is going to miss Goldschmidt’s presence in the lineup. Last season, he was the runner up in the National League for the MVP award.
He is not the only player on the team that is injured and on the disabled list. As of right now, Arizona has 10 players on the disabled list, and five of them are pitchers, as proven by MLB.com.
The team has had injury issues and hopes to finish the season strong despite the obstacles that have been placed before them. They are 14 games out of first place with a total of 49 wins and 63 losses.
