Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has reason to be confident in his team after they trounced Manchester City 3-0 on Sunday to win the FA Community Shield. The Community Shield is battle between the previous year's Premier League champions and FA Cup winners. While it is not held with the same revere as either of those trophies, it is a positive sign for the upcoming season for the winning side.
Arsenal used goals from Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and a long range effort from substitute Olivier Giroud to take care of the winners of two of the last three Premier Leagues, reports Daily Mail.
The game presented a chance for the Gunners to show off their big summer signing, Alexis Sanchez, who came to the team for £35million, according to Mirror.
The speedy forward comes to the London club from Barcelona after being a standout for Chile at the World Cup. “He is always dangerous, always a threat," said Wenger of Sanzhez. "He gives us great qualities on counter-attacking as well. Sanchez can play on both sides.”
Wenger is confident that Arsenal can win their first Premier League title since 2004, when Thierry Henry was at the top of his game. Wenger knows it takes players of that kind of caliber to win the Premier League, and he feels that for the for the fist time in several years he has those kind of players. “Three, four, five years ago every year we lost a big player," said Wenger. "In the last two years we've added players, like Mesut Ozil and Sanchez, which of course strengthens the squad."
