Manny Machado will miss the remainder of the MLB season after opting for knee surgery.

Machado sprained his right knee earlier this month and was put on the 15-day disabled list, according to MLB.com.

Orioles manager Buck Showalter told reporters that he would like to give a clear answer, but he can not.

“That won’t happen,” he said. “I’ll probably try to bring some clarity and everything to where we are with the situation, try to gather exactly what he’s being told, as far as baseball activities would start and all that stuff.”

Machado was scheduled to return from the DL next Wednesday, but Dr. Neal ElAttrache, an orthopedic surgeon, found something else wrong with Machado’s knee and told him surgery was the only way to heal it, according to USA Today.

Machado has only played in 82 games this season and was hitting .278 with 12 home runs and 32 RBIs.

Machado also had to have season ending knee surgery last year after he injured his left knee in September.
