This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Baby Boom and, to remind everyone that they are getting older, PBS is going to air a special looking at the generation that grew up in the decades after World War II.
The Baby Boom technically covers 1946, right after the war ended, through 1964. The new PBS film, titled The Boomer List, will include interviews with 19 celebrities born during those years, including singer Billy Joel, fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger, comedian Rosie O’Donnell, actor Samuel L. Jackson and Maria Shriver, notes The Associated Press. Each celebrity was born during a different year of the Baby Boom era.
PBS will air The Boomer List on Sept. 23 as a part of the American Masters series. It was directed by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders, who helmed similar films like The Out List, The Black List and The Latino List. He laos directed the American Masters film on Lou Reed.
“When I learned about this year’s boomer milestone, I came up with the idea for The Boomer List,” Greenfield-Sanders said in a statement. “The film captures the boomer generation’s dynamic spirit through 19 distinct ‘American Masters’ who had a profound effect on our world.”
In addition to being featured in the documentary, Joel will also be the recipient of the Library of Congress’ 2014 George Gershwin Prize for Popular song.
