Our second day in Boston began with my personal favorite tourist attraction in Boston; “The Boston Duck Tour”. Hop aboard one of their unique “world war II style amphibious landing vehicles” and spend 80 fun filled minutes learning Boston’s history and so many cool facts along the way. Join the party by arriving at the Prudential Center (53 Huntington Avenue) and you can be on your way. Duck Tours began in 1994 with four original DUKW’S (“designed in 1942”, “utility amphibious cargo-carrying vehicle”, “front wheel drive”, “double rear axle drive”); today 28 replicas run in their tourist fleet. Each tour guide provides their own unique story; “Dirty Waters” a famous blues musician ran our tour and asked us to join his Duck Tours Rhythm & Blues Revue Band. Dirty Waters was absolutely hilarious and filled our minds with some super interesting Boston information. My kid's loved "quacking" randomly as we continued on through Boston. Boston’s Original Fire Station still stands (all landmark buildings cannot be changed); the side walk has been dropped from below to accommodate the today’s model of the fire truck. We saw the site of the Boston Marathon; the oldest marathon spanning 26.2 miles beginning in 1897 with 15 runners and growing to 2014’s number of 36,000 runners. The only library larger than the Boston Public Library is the Library of Congress. Boston Common’s is the oldest public park in the country while Boston Botanical Gardens is home to the famous Swan Boats. Once the boat hits the Charles River, my children were both given the option to assist in “driving the boat”; it was a wonder 80 minutes and filled us with tourist trivia and all sorts of ideas to check out during our stay in Boston. Thank you so much Dirty Waters and the entire Duck Tour crew! For more information please visit www.bostonducktours.com or call 617-450-0068.
