The Boston Red Sox have placed Allen Craig on the 15-day disabled list after turning his left ankle stepping on first base in his Red Sox debut Friday night.
Craig, 30, had just four plate appearances with Boston after being acquired in a trade along with former Cardinal Joe Kelly for starting pitcher John Lackey. Craig went one for four with a double before tweaking his ankle running out a grounder.
In St. Louis Craig hit .237 with a .638 OPS, according to NBC. Craig’s production has been no where close to last season, when he hit .315 with 13 home runs and 97 RBI.
Hopefully Craig can overcome his ailing foot to return to being one of the purest hitters in the MLB. Between 2011-13 Craig hit .312/.364/.500 with 46 home runs.
Rookie Mookie Betts and Daniel Nava will now see more playing time in Craig’s absence. The team has also called up Corey Brown, 28, who is hitting .226 with 16 home runs with Triple-A Pawtucket, according to WEEI.
