The second outing of Cinemax's new series from Steven Soderbergh The Knick managed to improve upon last Friday's reasonably solid start.

The second episode of the series drew nearly 600,000 viewers, which is an 18 percent jump from the first episode's initial telecast of 419,000 viewers, Deadline reports.

The first episode, which was made more widely available, of the Clive Owen starring series, drew in a total of 1.7 million viewers through the whole weekend, especially buoyed by appearing on sister network HBO.

The growth is a positive sign, especially for a series which was renewed a month before it was ever set to premiere. Soderbergh, who directed all 10 first season episodes plans to do the same for the second season, which will air in 2015.

The Sunday night numbers for HBO's programs were also quite strong, with the penultimate episode of True Blood drawing 3.6 million viewers for the initial telecast, and a total 4.3 million through all airings.

The Leftovers managed to average 1.636 million viewers, which is the second-most viewed episode of the series, which also was renewed for a second season. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver followed with a strong 1 million viewers.
