The Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez will miss the remainder of the year after injuring his patella tendon in his left knee Thursday.

Gonzalez will become the second big name player for the Rockies in as many days to be ruled out for the season. Troy Tulowitzki tore a muscle in his hip on Wednesday, as we previously reported.

Gonzalez had already missed much of the year with injuries, including a sprained right ankle and a tumor in a finger on his left hand, which made him miss 35 games, according to ESPN.

According to the Rockies, Gonzalez will miss five to six months after having surgery.

Gonzalez told the Rockies that he was not planning on the having the surgery, but after talking to doctors and ruling out other procedures this was the best option.

This season, Gonzalez was hitting .238 from the plate along with 11 home runs, 38 RBIs, and 15 doubles.

The Rockies are in last place in the National League and have a record of 47-74, according to Sports Illustrated.
